What is Occupational Therapy?

Occupational Therapists (OT's), provide assistance and intervention to people who may have a physical, cognitive and sensory difficulty that impacts their ability to be independent in their day to day lives.

A child's main occupation is to PLAY and LEARN.

Paediatric Occupational Therapists help children with differing needs, develop skills to perform purposeful activities that make up their everyday lives. Through meaningful activities and play, OT's facilitate the development of age-appropriate skills and help children become as independent as possible.

At Growing Minds, our therapists work with you and your child to instil confidence, self-efficacy and resilience.

Initial Assessment

  • The initial assessment takes 60-90 mins and involves a brief interview with a parent or carer and the child

  • This is followed by clinical observations of the child completing activities as well as standardised assessments which assist in benchmarking the child's developmental progress.

  • Following the initial assessment, your therapist will provide a detailed report outlining the results of the assessment and recommendations, as well as outlining meaningful therapy goals.

Home based Sessions

  • We can provide one to one OT sessions at home. This is beneficial for children who are more confident in familiar surroundings.

  • The session length will be identified following the initial assessment.

  • Growing Minds is based in the Ryde Council area and travel within the area is of no charge. Travel fees will be discussed for referrals out of area.

School based Sessions

  • We provide the flexibility of Pre-School, School or Day Care sessions.

  • School based therapy is beneficial, given being a student is one of your child's key occupations.

  • A close working relationship involving the teacher is a valuable and effective way of working with a child to achieve their goals

  • Therapy session times can be suited to meet your child's needs
